Wow I am late with this post! For the past two years, I had our annual memory hymns posted by mid-July.
Here it is almost September, and the only song I had picked was our current one. Until today.
Bryan and I were able to carve out some time to discuss the new school year, and while we were at it, we picked our family hymns.
For how and why we memorize hymns, please see this post.
This year, we are adding a bit of a twist. Jayme is creating lyrics-only family hymnals for each of us.
Housed in a three-ring binder, everyone can illustrate their personal songbook as desired. Every hymn we’ve memorized will be included, for easy review. We can also update it every summer with twelve new songs.
As Jeff and Ellie become better readers, this will provide another practical form of practice. I think it’ll be easier than all trying to share our single hymnal!
Here are our selections:
August (Thankfulness)
For the Beauty of the Earth
September (Testimony)
Saved by the Blood
October (Revival)
There Shall Be Showers of Blessing
November (Evangelism and Missions)
Rescue the Perishing
December (Christ’s Blood)
We Three Kings
January (Service)
Bring Them In
February (Home and Family)
Molding a Masterpiece
March (The Cross)
Were You There
April (Christ’s Ressurection)
Christ Arose
May (Eternal Life)
O That Will Be Glory
June (Heaven)
When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder
July (Spiritual Warfare)
Onward, Christian Soldiers
Then next July, we will pick more. We really enjoy practicing our hymns each morning and evening. I’m looking forward to getting the hymnals printed next week and beginning to use those.
Are you memorizing any hymns this year?
