Firewood.
When you have a wood stove as your main source of heat, firewood is essential! We’ve been blessed to have my step-dad and mom help quite a bit with wood–we all go out and cut, and fill the trucks. There’s something soothing about being in the forest, and doing good, hard work.
This was a weird, dry summer. With forest fires burning all around, we didn’t cut much over the summer. We’re usually done with wood by November, but not yet this year.
We are hoping that the snow won’t fly for a few more weekends, giving us a chance to get more wood piled in.
Firewood was an area I honestly didn’t anticipate Dad being able to help with.
I was wrong.
He bought an ax (since he can’t swing the mauls we have) and has been splitting a little wood every day. It’s definitely been a blessing, since Bryan works crazy hours, and is rarely home before dark.
Dad also helps to make sure there’s wood in the house. He and Jeff fill the wheelbarrow at the barn, and bring it closer to the house.
When you have a multi-generational home, you can’t always anticipate ways that everyone will be able to help.I’m glad that Dad kept his eyes open for a need, and found a way to help.
I’m very thankful for the firewood help that Dad has provided. (And Steve, and Mom, and Uncle Danny…) Thanks guys!
