Since we never sent out Christmas cards last year, we didn’t take time to update our family pictures. Our last one was when our two year old was a baby, and was missing our youngest!
It was definitely time for Bryan to drag out his photography equipment and take a new set of large family photos.
On Valentine’s Day, the kids all decided to wear their red Christmas outfits again. Those made the perfect, coordinating outfits for our shoot.
Preparing for Large Family Photos
Before we headed to church on Valentine’s Day, Bryan and I worked to prep the house. That way when we got home we could do the shoot before everyone had time to get changed or messy! We set up portable lights, selected a backdrop, and got everything ready.
When we got home, we started right in.
Getting nine people in the picture is a challenge! We all need to be in one place, looking in the same direction, and smiling at the right time. Owen’s epilepsy has been crazy lately, so he needed to be in his wheelchair for the picture. That kept him supported and prevented falls in case of a seizure.
For our group pic, we started by parking Owen’s wheelchair in the middle of the backdrop. He was sort of the middle height, so we could gather around him and have it look fairly balanced.
Once the kids and I were in position, Bryan adjusted the camera on the tripod. We adjusted a bit until we were all in the viewfinder.
Using a remote trigger, Bryan was able to get into the picture. I love having us all in there!
I can’t believe we actually got a picture with everyone looking at the camera. You should have seen some of the others–they were definitely funny. We took one with everyone sticking out their tongue, and little Ellie didn’t realize that we were only doing the one that way. She had her tongue out for several pictures. So cute!
I love the memories we capture by bringing out the camera!
Updated Pictures of Everyone
It’s been a while since I updated pictures around here. My “About” and “Meet the Family” pages will be getting a face lift later this week. Here’s the pictures I’ll be using:
Jayme
My baby girl is growing up! She turned 14 in January–I can’t believe it…
Owen
Can you believe this handsome fellow is almost a decade old? Just a few more months until he turns 10!
Jeffrey
A kitchen stool makes the perfect prop for a photo! Even though my seven year old Jeffrey doesn’t need to stand on a stool anymore to help me cook. He’s getting so tall!
Ellie
This photo perfectly captures Ellie’s serious side. My girly girl is definitely a thinker! She’ll be six this spring.
Sydney
I love how by just adjusting the balance of colors a bit, this background looks completely different! It’s the same one, but looks blue in this Sydney picture. That’s perfect for her, because even though she’s now four, she continues to march to the beat of her own drum.
Simon
This is one of the first nice portraits we have of two-year old Simon. Bryan’s crazy work hours over the last few years definitely got in the way of taking pictures. I’m so thankful that he’s working less now!
Brynna
Love. That. Lip! What more can I say? Brynna has everyone wrapped around her finger. Can you tell why?
Bryan and Me
Can’t imagine life without this awesome man. I’m so thankful for him, and the whole family!
Bryan Tanner Photos
I’m so happy to announce that my husband is launching a photography business! It works perfectly with my freelance writing business, because now I can offer fabulous, original images to my clients.
I love that we’re both able to work on our own interests in a way that promotes collaboration. What a great experience for the kids to see–that you truly can do what you love and find a way to get paid for doing it.
Have you updated your family pictures lately? I’d love for you to share a link and let me see!
