Blogging Reflections 2016: My Favorite 12 Posts

January 4, 2017 Lisa

Wow, it’s 2017! I ended 2015 with a post sharing my favorite posts from each month. Blogging reflections are always a good way to see what’s working and what’s not!

So I’m repeating the process. Below you’ll find details about my favorite post from each month of 2016. You can click on each picture to go to the original post.

Enjoy!

Homeschooling Teens and Tots

homeschooling teens and tots

A few of the strategies I use in homeschooling a wide age-range of kids. These are still happening around here, and explain how I’m able to homeschool a freshman and a preschooler!

Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day

February 15th is Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day. If you’ve been a reader for long, you know that our oldest son, Owen, has Angelman Syndrome. It’s caused by a deletion on the 15th chromosome. In order to help raise awareness, I wrote this post last year.

Here’s What Happened on Pi Day Back in 2003

Blogging reflections 2016: Pi Day

A personal story post sharing some fun facts about my husband and I, and our journey together. I enjoyed getting a bit more personal on the blog, as it was something I used to do frequently. It’s a different style of posts, and one I enjoy!

A Busy Mom’s Guide to Owning a Milk Cow

Blogging reflections 2016: Busy Mom's Guide to Owning a Milk cow

I love fresh milk! But I hated being tied to the barn twice a day for the majority of the year. I’m so thankful for the changes I made to my milking schedule in 2016.

Once our cow freshens again this spring I’ll be repeating this method of milking. Our steer calves grew so big with access to their mommies. They are the size now at 9 months as the 18 month old steers we butchered this year.

Win win!

Once a Month Shopping Trip: in Real Life

The week before this post went live, I’d posted about how I prepare for a once a month shopping trip. While I do enjoy getting everything done in one swoop, it doesn’t always happen how I planned.

So this post is an honest look at how my trip was a failure. But that’s alright. Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. That’s a good reminder for myself and my kids!

Memorizing Hymns with Kids: Tips I’ve Learned

Some tips I've learned for memorizing hymns with kids.

We’ve been memorizing a hymn a month for several years now, and it’s one of my favorite parts of our homeschooling. This post shares a few of the best tips I’ve learned for helping kids memorize hymns.

5 Imagination Building Games at the Park

The park is the perfect place for imagination building. Here are five games that encourage creative thinking.

It’s hard to imagine going to the park right now, with over a foot of snow on the ground, but it’s one of our favorite activities when the weather is decent. Instead of just turning the kids loose to play, here are some imagination building games to play. They’re a lot of fun!

And Baby Makes….10!

Exciting baby news from the Tanner family! Can you guess what it is?

Our pregnancy announcement post! I’m looking forward to finding out if this little one is a boy or a girl, and getting in some newborn snuggles in the new year!

Our Ferry Adventure: Free Fun in Eastern Washington

Enjoying the free ferry services in Eastern Washington.

Going on drives is one of our favorite ways to spend time together. We love playing car games, exploring new sites, and just being together. This post recaps a ferry adventure we enjoyed this fall.

Easy Sunday Lunches with the Dutch Oven

The Dutch oven makes Sunday lunches after church easy.

Sundays are a little bit crazy! By the time we get home from church, everyone is starving. I used to rely on the crockpots to have lunch ready at the right time, but then I discovered the Dutch oven. We think food tastes way better prepared this way!

Dart Gun Battles for Large Family Fun

We enjoy dart gun battles for some good family fun. Here's three variations we play.

Dart guns have been such a fun addition to the house! We added to the collection again at Christmas, and enjoy dividing into teams and battling.

Maggie’s Milk: Blog Makeover and Changes

Check out my blog makeover and the changes coming to Maggie's Milk!

I’m so happy with the way my blog makeover turned out! It’s been a long time coming, and I’m excited by the coming changes. I still haven’t purges my categories, but it’s on my to-do list! Someday it’ll happen. Until then, enjoy the easier to read fonts and the look of my blog.
