This week we’ve been continuing our Alphabet Bible Stories series. The letter B is for Babel, so this week we learned about the Tower of Babel.
Here’s a quick overview of what we did each day:
Tower of Babel Day 1
Bible Reading: Genesis 11:1-5
Sequence Card #1: Draw a tower
Activity: Work together to build a tall tower with blocks–try to get it as high as someone in the family.
Discussion Starting Points:
- Why did the people want to build the tower?
- What is pride?
- What does the Bible say about pride?
Tower of Babel Day 2
Bible Reading: Genesis 11:6-9
Sequence Card #2: Draw people looking prideful at their tower
Activity: Tower snack. Spread peanut butter on graham crackers pieces and build a small tower. Share before eating.
Discussion Starting Points:
- Why did God come down from heaven?
- What was wrong with the way the people were behaving?
- What did God do?
Tower of Babel Day 3
Bible Reading: Genesis 11:1-9
Sequence Card #3: Color the people and write words in different languages in the speech bubbles to indicate the confusion of languages.
Activity: Watch YouTube videos of people speaking in different languages. Listen closely and compare and contrast the languages. Did they recognize any words?
Discussion Starting Points
- Why do we have different languages and people all around the world now?
- What other languages have you heard of? (Brainstorm).
- Can you say any words in another language?
Tower of Babel Day 4
Kids take turns telling the story. They can act it out, use the sequence cards, or just tell it from memory.
Why Teach Alphabet Bible Stories?
I initially went through these Bible stories when my middles were littles. Now, I have a new batch of littles who need to build a solid foundation in the word of God. My middles also need a refresher course, with more in-depth understanding.
Since my littles are learning their letters, it makes sense to tie the letters into our Bible studies. You can read more in my initial post for this series, here.
