Teaching our children about God and pointing them to Jesus is so important. We’re always on the lookout for kid-friendly resources to use during our Family Bible Time. So, I was thrilled to have the chance to review 30 Prophecies: One Story: How God’s Word Points to Jesus from Christian Focus.
What Is This Product?
A quality hardcover book, 30 Prophecies: One Story contains thirty different prophecies from the Bible that Jesus Christ fulfilled. Each one is presented in a beautiful two-page spread. A few sections went onto a third page.
For each prophecy, you’ll find the following pieces of information:
- Prophet/Dates
- Verse where the prophecy was made
- What the prophecy meant to the people of the time (this section is called Then and There)
- The Bible verse where the prophecy was fulfilled by Christ
- How the prophecy fits into God’s plan of salvation (called Scarlet Thread)
- Applications you can make from this information
- And a prayer in response
At the beginning of the book, there’s also a timeline to help everyone get a better sense of the chronological order of events. The back of the book has many helpful resources as well, including character profiles that answer questions about some of the people in the book. For each, it answers the following questions:
- What did he do?
- What did he write?
- Where is his story?
This was a nice reference the kids could use to refresh their memory of who everyone was.
There was also a resource listing some key scriptures to memorize.
How Did We Use This Product?
Each day, we’d read through one prophecy. We’d open our Bibles to the place where the prophecy was made, and typically read more than just the verse or two presented in this book. That gave us a bit of context, and helped guide our discussions even more.
Then, we read aloud the information from 30 Prophecies: One Story. We used the information to help us dive deeper into the Bible passage, and see how everything tied together for God’s perfect plan.
The application section encouraged a lot of interesting discussion. As did the Scarlet Thread sections. This was helping to connect the dots, explaining how the events we just learned about were part of the Salvation story.
What Did We Think of This Product?
I thought this book was very well made. It’s obvious that care was put into the graphic design elements of it. It looks professional, while still having a kid-friendly vibe.
The content was great. It helped us to focus on intentionally explaining through the Bible how Jesus fulfilled those important prophecies. It was written in a way that was engaging for the kids, without speaking down to them. I appreciated that.
The kids thought it was fun to try something different. They learned a lot about a variety of prophecies, and God’s love.
If you’re looking for a new resource to help point your kids to Christ, I highly recommend this product.
