Their Last Bottle

June 30, 2015 Lisa

Dust, Shadow and Shade are growing up! All of them are three months old, and this morning was their final bottle!

They’ve had an amazingly healthy start, completely on cow’s milk–no replacer.

They are also eating a lot of hay, and drinking water.

And it’s time to them to go to a pasture. So…they are ready to be weaned.
The first few days will be the hardest, as I know they will bawl.

But, they will soon be loving their fresh grass. And will quiet down.

This also means that my toughest 1/3 of the milking season is over! Only six months to go, and now I’ll have a ton of milk. My plans?

Put a lot in the freezer so I don’t have to buy a lot of milk over the winter. One of my readers also mentioned freezing buttermilk, so I’ll be making extra of that.

I also want to try more complex cheeses.

There is always a way to use milk!

One last picture to celebrate the end of the first 1/3 of the milking season!

They are so cute!! And next year? They’ll sure taste good!
