Baby Bunnies!

May 14, 2015 Lisa

My goal to raise meat rabbits has been a long time coming. Oh–we bought the bunnies. Five of them have been on the farm since last fall.

But, you know that saying, “breed like rabbits…” Yeah–we had trouble turning that into reality. We had one litter over the winter, but none of the kits were alive. Since then, we’ve had breeding after breeding lead to no results.

Until today!

Mama Bunny greeted me this morning with a mouthful of fur and hay. She was building a nest! Jayme checked later in the morning, and found baby bunnies.

It was a small litter of three. One was dead, but two were alive! We have baby bunnies!

The kids are so excited, and so am I!

We should have two more litters coming in early June. If those work out, I’ll have to tell you how I changed the breeding method from what Ibwas trying over the winter.

Lord willing, this fall, we will have rabbits to eat! Until then, we will take good care of our littlest farm animals!
